About how we use our words. |
What we hold most valuable are free gifts from God. |

While walking in a valley deep, it seemed that God was gone, But then I heard a voice that said you never walked alone. For I have always loved you, though love seemed hard to find And now I speak unto your heart to ease your troubled mind. Before you came into this world, before your eyes could see, I put a longing in your heart that you might search for me. And when the time had fully come and all things were complete I led you to this valley that you and I could meet. I gave you breath this morning, and strength throughout the day, I sent my Spirit to your heart to guide you in the way. To save your soul from Satan, I sent you My own son If you would see my love for you just look at what I've done. In the stillness of a winter's night when all was cold and dark, I sent the beauty of the snow to cheer you lonely heart. And when the winter winds had passed and evening shadows gone, I sent the robin to your house to sing his lovely song. When summer came I sent the sun and kissed the earth with dew, And then I made the roses bloom especially for you. In fall I painted all the trees with splendor from above, And with every passing season I declared to you My love. And as I listened to His voice, I soon began to see, That God had given all these things especially for me. Now I may walk in valleys, but there's one thing I know, If Jesus walks beside me, that's where I want to go.
(For He has made everything beautiful in His time. Ecc. 3:11

When many troubles come our way and sorrows round us flow, we fill our mouths with pleasant words and to the Lord we go. With words we call upon His name to help in time of need, with words we come before His throne and for His favor plead. With words we ask that He would send us grace from up above, with words we stand with open face and tell Him of our love. With words we promise to obey and love our neighbors too, with words we guarantee to God that what we say is true. With words we cause division and fill the church with strife, With words we create darkness and take away the light. With words we break the cords of love which binds our souls as one, With words we grieve the heart of God and crucify His son. With words we lay our brother low and tear his soul apart, With words we cut our sister down and break her loving heart. May we take heed to words we speak and consider what the cost, For by our words we may be saved or by our words be lost.
(By thy words thou shall be justified and by thy words thou shall be condemned. Matt. 12:37)

The most important things in life God gives to us free. But we sometimes take for granted And often fail to see; The simple things that God has done To show His great love; Like summer rain and starry nights Or sunshine from above. He sends His love through others To brighten up our day, He causes them to care for us And help us on our way. So let us always keep in mind While on our way to heaven, The greatest things in this life To us are freely given. |
Dad wrote this poem for his 2005 revival meeting news-letter. He has been very sick and you can tell what was on his heart when this was written. For 23 years now, Mom and Dad have hosted a series of revival services each summer beginning on July 5th . When the news-letter went out he was uncertain if he would be able to attend any of the services because of his illness, but he came every night. Not that he was well-- some nights he was in a lot of pain. One service night in particular we began with prayer for him because on the way to church he had, what he said felt like- a heart attack. He came to church anyway. These words were more than an academic exercise for him, but represent the truths that he's holding onto.
